Inclusion

Base71 Youth Zone is committed to supporting and welcoming young people with a range of additional needs, offering services up to the age of 25 through inclusive ability sessions alongside our mainstream activities.

We adapt sessions to meet the needs of young people with additional requirements, from mild learning difficulties to more complex needs, including visual impairments and physical disabilities, ensuring that Base71 is a space where everyone can thrive.

Guidance on Parents attending

Our aim is to help young people grow in confidence and feel comfortable attending on their own.

We completely understand that, especially for those with additional needs, the first few visits can feel a little daunting. To make this easier, we’re happy for one parent or carer to come along with their young person for up to the first four weeks. This will be for Inclusion sessions ONLY and not Junior/Senior Club sessions.

During this time, we’ll do our best to support each young person to feel settled and gradually more independent. For everyone’s safety, there are some simple safeguarding policies and procedures that adults will need to follow while attending.

As we are not able to provide 1:1 support or personal care ourselves, we welcome an appropriate adult to come along and offer that extra help if needed. This could be a Personal Assistant arranged through health or social care services, someone employed directly by the family, or, where it feels right, a family member.
