Base71 Youth Zone is an exciting  youth centre where young people in Barnsley can connect, grow, socialise, and develop. We are offering a world-class space with over 20 activities every session for young people aged 8 to 19 (or up to 25 for those with additional needs). From sports and fitness to creative arts, cooking, and employability workshops, there will be something for everyone to explore and enjoy.

Members can register by filling out our membership form on our website here

Annual membership for the Youth Zone will be £5, then members will pay 50p per visit which includes access to over 20 activities. Thanks to Barnsley Council, if you sign up before March 2026 any young person under 18 and living in a Barnsley postcode will be able to waive the £5 annual membership fee and sign up for free! We’ll also have a café serving hot meals for just £1!

Once your membership has been submitted you should receive a confirmation email, please check your junk/spam folder.
If you have not received an email, please contact us at info@base71yz.org and a member of our team will be happy to check if your membership has been created.

We do not provide physical membership cards, when you attend a session our reception team will be able to access your membership details when you provide your name.

Our reception team is available 7 days a week and can answer most general questions – call 01226 782626 to speak to the team.

Alternatively, if your query is quite specific, please email info@base71yz.org

Juniors (ages 8-12) who enter and exit the premises are monitored and must be collected by a parent/guardian. If you give consent for your child to travel home by themselves or with another adult, please let a member of our reception team know.

Seniors (ages 13-19 or up 25 with additional needs) are free to leave the Youth Zone whenever they like, unless their parent/guardian lets our reception team know otherwise.

Please contact our youth team if you would like your 12 year old to join a senior session.

We can’t let parents past reception in any session, apart from our Inclusion session for safeguarding reasons. If your child needs additional support, it may be that our Inclusion session would be a good starting point at Base71. As we are not able to provide 1:1 support or personal care ourselves, we welcome an appropriate adult to come along and offer that extra help if needed during our Inclusion session.

This could be a Personal Assistant arranged through health or social care services, someone employed directly by the family, or, where it feels right, a family member.

All children and young people are welcome at Base71 Youth Zone, regardless of their needs and requirements. We have trained staff covering all our sessions so we can offer bespoke support for all the young people that attend the Youth Zone and their needs are met whilst they’re here.

Sessions are adapted for young people with additional needs and are open for a wide range of young people to access; including those with mild learning difficulties, through to those with more complex needs such as visual impairment and physical disabilities.

The building itself is accessible to all, including a lift, changing places toilet facilities, wheelchair access doorways, sensory room, and even an accessible climbing wall.

Base71 runs an Inclusion session every Sunday which is dedicated just for those with an additional need or disability

If you have any questions about your child’s needs, please email info@base71yz.org
