We are thrilled to welcome your group to Base71 Youth Zone as part of our exclusive soft opening phase. Before we officially open our doors to the public in 2026, were giving local schools, grassroots clubs, teams, colleges and community groups a special opportunity to explore what is on offer for young people in the area.

What is Base71?
Base71 is a brand new space for young people aged 8-19 (up to 25 for those with additional needs) to feel safe, supported and inspired. Designed to empower the next generation, Base71 is packed with state of the art facilities, an extensive range of activities and a team of dedicated youth workers who are always on hand to help.
Whether young people are into sports, music, gaming, arts or simply just hanging out with friends, we have something for everyone!

How do I make a booking?
Bookings for Soft Opening visits can be made by contacting the relevant Youth Work Team member:

Do young people need to be a member?
We encourage all young people to sign up before visiting. This makes the sign-in process quicker and ensures we’re aware of any important medical or allergy needs.
Thanks to Barnsley Council, membership is free for all under-18s with a Barnsley postcode.

Can parents/guardians attend the session?
For safeguarding reasons, parents and guardians cannot attend Soft Opening sessions.
Group leaders or supervisors are expected to attend with their group of young people and must present a valid DBS certificate on arrival.
What should young people bring with them?
Food & drink: Catering may not be available during the Soft Opening period, so participants can bring their own snacks and drinks.
Clothing: Comfortable clothing and suitable footwear should be worn for indoor and outdoor activities.
For football, please dress appropriately for the outdoor astro-turf pitch.
For climbing, wear flexible clothing (shorts or trousers are fine). Longer trousers can prevent irritation from harnesses, while shorts provide comfort but may leave legs exposed to scrapes.
What activities will be available?
Base71 Youth Zone is a purpose-built facility offering up to 20 activities per session, including:
- Sports (football, basketball, badminton, netball, boxing, martial arts)
- Fitness suite with modern gym equipment
- Indoor climbing wall & outdoor kick pitch
- Creative areas for dance, music, arts, crafts, DJ-ing, media and gaming
During the Soft Opening period, not all activities may be available due to staffing or equipment. We’ll confirm what’s on offer before your visit.
Behaviour Policy
Base71 is an open-access youth facility that welcomes all young people. We recognise that some may need support in managing behaviour to ensure positive participation and respectful engagement.
Our behaviour management procedure promotes appropriate conduct, addresses unacceptable behaviour, and helps young people understand expectations.

Can children who require 1:1 or additional support attend?
Yes.
While we cannot provide 1:1 support or personal care ourselves, an appropriate adult can accompany the young person. This could be a Personal Assistant (through health or social care) or someone employed directly by the family.
Medical and safety information
Base71 cannot accept liability for any loss or injury sustained during Soft Opening sessions. In the event of an accident:
- Emergency first aid will be provided by a qualified staff member.
- Hospital care will be arranged if necessary.
Parents/guardians are responsible for informing us of any medical conditions that may affect participation.
Parking
Base71 does not have parking facilities and can only accommodate pick up and drop off.
There are car parks nearby are Market Gate S70 1GW, County Way S70 2JW and The Glassworks.
