Nearly 100 Barnsley schoolgirls celebrate International Women’s Day with empowerment event
Nearly 100 young women from secondary schools across Barnsley gathered at Base 71 to celebrate International Women’s Day with a day dedicated to empowerment, confidence building and future opportunities.
The event was organised by Barnsley Council’s BYouth Young People’s Service in partnership with the Great Childhoods Ambition team and a range of local organisations. It brought together students from across the borough for a programme of workshops designed to inspire and support young women.
Throughout the day, participants took part in interactive sessions focused on wellbeing, resilience and career opportunities. Activities encouraged students to get active and build healthy habits, develop personal resilience and explore pathways into STEM – science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The workshops aimed to boost confidence, help young people connect with one another and highlight the wide range of opportunities available to girls and young women in Barnsley.
Organisers said the event formed part of ongoing work to support young people across the borough and ensure they feel confident about their futures.
The celebration marked International Women’s Day by recognising the potential of the next generation and encouraging young women to pursue their ambitions.
