Charity Single to raise funds for Base71

A powerful new charity single is being released to celebrate the life and creativity of 10-year-old Joshua Barton, the Barnsley youngster who tragically passed away in July 2018 following a severe asthma attack.

The release will raise funds for Base71 Youth Zone, Barnsley’s new youth-zone and the Barnsley Great Christmas Toy Appeal, supporting young people and families across the community Joshua called home.

The song, titled “Sorry,” is performed by acclaimed indie band All the Young and is inspired by lyrics written by Joshua himself. What began as the heartfelt words of a gifted young boy has been transformed into a moving tribute with purpose and meaning.

Joshua’s dad, John Barton, said:
“Just days after Joshua died, I came across some song lyrics he had written. They were structured, thoughtful, and showed just how creative his mind truly was. Last year, I shared them with a friend, Ryan Dooley from Stoke-based indie band All the Young. He took Joshua’s words and crafted them into a beautiful track, adding his own musical touch and a deeply emotional second verse.”

The single will be released Monday 8 December on Bandcamp, with 100% of proceeds being shared between the two Barnsley charities—ensuring Joshua’s voice continues to inspire hope, support and kindness in his community.
