What is Base71?
Base71 is the first Youth Zone in Yorkshire, offering a world-class space with over 20 activities every session for young people aged 8 to 19 (or up to 25 for those with additional needs). From sports and fitness to creative arts, cooking, and employability workshops, there’s something for everyone to explore and enjoy.
Staffed by skilled youth workers and supported by dedicated volunteers, Base71 is much more than a youth centre – it is a place where young people find encouragement, guidance, and opportunities to unlock their potential.
Base71 features cutting-edge facilities, including a climbing wall, sports hall, recording studio, teaching kitchen, music room, and a multi-use outdoor kick pitch. Located on Schwäbisch Gmünd Way, close to the train station and bus interchange, it is a vibrant hub where young people can make friends, learn new skills, and build brighter futures.
As part of the OnSide network of Youth Zones, Base71 operates as an independent charity with a private sector-led board, ensuring its long-term sustainability. Entry to each session costs just 50p, making high-quality youth provision affordable and accessible to all.
Local businesses and philanthropists are encouraged to support Base71’s fundraising drive, which helps cover running costs and ensures Barnsley’s young people have access to incredible opportunities for generations to come.
